Mission 1: People of Faith Working to End Hunger
Our denomination, the United Church of Christ, is launching Mission 1, an anti-hunger campaign that will run from November 1-11, 2011. To assist this worthy ministry, United Congregational Church is asking its members to bring in non-perishable food items during the first 11 days of November. These donation will be distributed by Wesley Methodist Church's Carty Food Cupboard which serves many families in downtown Worcester.
We hope to collect at least 111 pounds of food for the Mission 1 effort. All non-refrigerated food items (such as cereal, peanut butter, pasta, and stews) are welcome. The Carty Cupboard is also seeking large packages of the following for its Thanksgiving Baskets: turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, yams, green beans, canned corn, roll/bread mixes, pie crusts and fillings, and coffee.
God's Word reminds us that a true disciple "gives his food to the hungry, and provides clothing to the destitute" (Ezekiel 18:7). Our church is proud to be part of this United Church of Christ effort to follow this commandment, and we know the generosity of our congregation will lead to impressive results! For more information contact Tim Camp (phone: (508) 798-6997; email: timbcamp@aol.com). Thanks!

Celebrating a New Story at 6 Institute Road
Our Spirited and Bold Congregation Takes Action
In February 2010, United Congregational Church, UCC, took a bold step after a multi-year process of discernment. Recognizing that we were unnecessarily burdened with the upkeep and maintenance of a large physical plant the congregation voted to donate our building and our multi-million dollar endowment to the Worcester Area Mission Society UCC (WAMS).
United continues to worship at 6 Institute Road but the building now also serve as a hub of Worcester area agencies focused on ending homelessness.
Our worship is exciting and creative. The congregation participates in worship by contributing music, serving on worship teams and experimenting with new ideas. Mission, justice, and outreach are central to our vision. In addition we focus on nurturing community among ourselves and those who join us.
We are trying to listen to what God is calling us to do and to be. We are taking action and trusting that as we do so, we will learn our purpose and our relationship with God will become even more real. We took a tremendous leap in February. We have already experienced great change and we acknowledge that we are moving into an uncertain future. Yet, as a Spirited people, we go forward in Christ’s name with courage, community and compassion.
On October 30th, we our celebrating our decision with a blessing and reception.
